Big Ten Power Poll - FINAL

Final poll here, Congrats to the Badgers for sweeping the Big Ten regular season title as well as the BTBBBPP, a truly great season unexpected by everyone (except me :) ).

Best team of Bloggers - Iowa - Black Heart Gold Pants was not only the most consistent entry into the power poll, but collectively they were the most entertaining. Northwestern's Lake the Posts was the leading candidate for this award, but since he missed 3 or 4 weeks worth of polls I just couldn't in good conscience give it to him even though he was a participant when his team was the worst BCS team in the world.

Wost team of Bloggers - Ohio State - very lackadaisical in their participation. I guess when their team isn't on pace to finish as national runner-up they lose all interest. Hats off to Eleven Warriors for giving us an Ohio State entry in the last week.

Without further adieu here is the final poll as we head into the Big Ten Tournament this afternoon. And yes, that is one vote for Iowa as #1.

Big Ten Power Poll - Week 9

Purdue and Wisconsin distanced themselves from the Spartans and Hoosiers. Michigan State's statement win along with a couple nail biters over has dropped Indiana two spots. The Sampson hangover is in effect and we can all hope it lasts through Wednesday!

My Kinda Guy Award - Off the Tracks recognizes that there are not a lot deserving bubble teams around the country and lays out the necessary scenario for the Gophers to get into the Tourney.

Comparing the Comparison Posts - the BTBBBPP has consistently been a poll of comparisons. 80s bands, presidential candidates, He-Man characters, constitutional amendments etc. Black Heart Gold Pants was kind of the leader in this genre and has done a little look back on some of the better Power Poll Posts.

Big Ten Power Poll - Week 8

Maybe it is because the conference has kind of sorted it self out, or maybe it is because discussing the draft position of Jake Long is so important but the Big Ten Bloggers Basketball Power Poll is dying a slow death. We have set a Big Ten Bloggers record for a low in participants.

None the less, the Poll must go on.

Indiana moved past Wisconsin and Purdue's grip on 1st place is tenuous at best. Other than that there wasn't much action. My educated guess is that this is the last week you'll see Purdue atop the standings.

Big Ten Power Poll - Week 7

Purdue swept the first place votes again, but the big winner this week was Michigan who moved from 10th to 7th in one week after beating Ohio State last week (it must not be football season).

Post of the Week - this prestigious honor is once again bestowed upon Black Heart Gold Pants as they gave us the Big Ten Bill of Rights. Oops Pow Surprise states the obvious that nobody is protecting the Big Ten from Gopher Thievery, unfortunately for Minnesota nobody is protecting us from mounting losses.

Voters Guild Strike Update - Eleven Warriors broke ranks and gave us an Ohio State vote. But I think they have not recruited the rest of the Minnesota bloggers. PJS and From the Barn have abstained while Down With Goldy voted but put the Gophers 10th. I don't think they realize that the only reason I allowed all of these MN bloggers was to boost the gopher vote, but they didn't get that memo.

Big Ten Power Poll - Week 6

Even thought Northwestern may have the worst basketball team in the history of basketball the Big Ten, it should be pointed out that Illinois actually received 1 last place vote.

Post of the Week - even though the Ohio State bloggers continued their strike against the BTBBBPP, I am going to be the bigger blogger and give them the post of the week anyway. Their post had nothing to do with a Power Poll, but I love the Erin Andrews so my hats off to Eleven Warriors for giving me some pics.

Who Hates Illinois? - Black Shoe Diaries had this to say about their last place vote for the Illini, "Way to keep your dignity, Orange. You go to the bottom after the Eric Gordon embarrassment." And of course The Hoosier Report had this to say, "I'm not sure where Illinois can go from here. They can go to hell as far as I'm concerned."

So Purdue garners four, first place votes and is unable to move ahead of Indiana. Very interesting.

Nothing too earth shattering about this week's poll. Indiana remained undefeated and #1 on our list but 1 blogger did drop them as they went from 12 first place votes to 11. While Michigan State picked up 2 first place votes. Should get interesting when these top 3 teams finally play each other.

Big Ten Power Poll - Week 2

The good news this week is that we are growing. Last week's poll had 13 votes, in one week's time we have added 5 bloggers giving us a more respectable 18 votes. The bad news is that we still have no representation from Wisconsin or Illinois, but on good note we added another gopher blogger (can't have enough of those)!

Post of the Week - This week Off the Tracks compared the B10 schools to Bands of the 90s. I'm not a huge music guy so I think I didn't get much of it but comparing Illinois to Britney Spears actually made me lol and I got looks from my co-workers.

Homer(s) of the Week - tie - Enlightened Spartan and MSU-Sparty. Despite Michigan State struggling in their home wins, then suffering the worst loss of the BigTen season @Iowa they still thought the Spartans were worthy of #2 in the power poll. Since we have only 18 voters, I think homerism should be encouraged but it won't go without recognition.

My Favorite Blogger of the Week - BlackHeartGoldPants, for putting Minnesota 3rd in their poll. Not even I was that bold, but they clearly recognize superiority when they see it.

I Hate my Rival Blogger of the Week - Eleven Warriors wins this hands down for giving Michigan their only last place vote, despite beating Northwestern at Evanston last week. I love it, don't give in to the pressure of actual results!

NOTES:
Michigan State lost their grip on 1st place this week. I guess losing to Iowa will do that. So the top 3 really is no surprise. Indiana moves up to #1, Wisconsin then takes #2 with a smattering of first place votes.

The interesting battle was for 4th place. Ohio State lost to Purdue but managed to hold on to 4th. Minnesota went 2-0 but actually dropped a spot to 6th (but gained votes on OSU). Purdue made the leap to 5th but was unable to overtake tOSU despite beating them. As I was entering the votes those 3 teams took turns in the coveted 4th position, but Ohio State managed to hang on for this week.

Big Ten Power Poll - Week 1

We have 14 blogs who have committed to participating in the 1st annual Big Ten Bloggers Basketball Power Poll (BTBBBPP, whatever). If you want to read each individual blog's poll you can find their links at the bottom of this post. BTBBBPP post of the week clearly goes to Black Heart Gold Pants with an excellent analysis of the Big Ten teams and their logical corresponding presidential candidate. It was pretty good, even for an Iowa blog written by self professed, "degenerate drunken plagiarizing gambling addicts." I'm sure their spike in traffic from the GN link above should be relatively equivalent to what they saw with the deadspin link.
