Welcome to Gopher Nation Kid - MarQueis Gray

Watching US Army All Star game and the Gophers just received arguably their best offensive commitment this year.

QB - MarQueis Gray - 4-Star Dual Threat QB

Gray has all the tools to be a great fit for the Spread Coast Offense. Gray has a strong arm and is very athletic. ESPN Recruiting Insider says that Gray is actually a very good pocket passer who just happens to be a great athlete.

ESPN Recruiting Insider - "Gray possesses good tools and size, he just needs to continue to develop and coaching at the next level should really help him mature. Has a very high ceiling for development to be excellent in time."

Rivals.com - Gray threw for 1,113 passing yards and 12 touchdowns and rushed for 600 yards as a junior. He missed time during his senior year with a broken arm. Rivals.com rates him as the second-best dual-threat quarterback nationally behind Terrelle Pryor, the nation's No. 1 player regardless of position.
Gray is undoubtedly a QB and would be the future QB for the gophers. It will be very intersting to see how he develops and how the playing time works out. I can't imagine that coach Brewster would want to head into another season with a freshman QB (true freshman at that). My assumption is that Weber will start in 2008 and Gray will redshirt. Really, what do I know (nothing), but it will be interesting to say the least.

We are fortunate to land a highly recruited and very talented QB who should fit perfectly into the system.

Gray was selected to compete at the prestigious Elite 11 Quarterback Camp but will not be able to attend because of an IHSAA rule.

Other News...

Keanon Cooper - LB S - from Dallas Skyline and yet uncommitted. Cooper will be competing in the Burger King Skills Challenge on ESPN 2 tonight. 5:00 CST.

Keanon was assumed to be a gopher commit, but it looks like Michigan is making a late push. The Wolverines did just receive a LB S commitment from Brandon Smith so maybe the crowded depth chart will push Cooper back towards Minnesota but we will hopefully soon find out.

Spencer Reeves - LB - already committed, and high school teammate of Cooper's. Reeves made a recent comment to the Rivals.com staff that was encouraging to hear.
"GOLDEN GOPHERS ALL THE WAY!!!! I am coming in to change the program around and bring the winning attitude and swagger most importantly!"
We welcome that attitude to Minnesota Spencer!

Good news. I wonder what this means for Clint Brewster. If Gray is the second best dual-threat QB in the nation, I see no way Clint Brewster ever gets playing time. But, like you, I really know nothing.
